In the late 2010s a few options started to become available for custom printed fabrics that are good enough for recreational uses, and there was also a massive hype trend for Desert Night Camo. So in 2019 I got together some custom wicking polyester jersey type material and loop velcro in DNC and sent them over to Roman. He combined those materials with some original NYCO twill from disassembled parkas and created this shirt for me in 2020.
The cut is along my usual lines, so it’s based on G3 but the loop fields are solid, the pockets lack the internal dividers and the pen/eye pro slots are also omitted. A nice simple and lightweight solution that is just a bit slicker and quicker to dry than the original.

While the DNC trend has of course long past I’m still happy overall with how this came out, I think it looks the way a combat shirt made in the 80s would have looked if all the relevant camouflage materials actually existed at that time (or indeed the concept of a combat shirt).
I know the fully patterned UBACS isn’t everyone’s cup of tea aesthetically, but I have always loved them. Since there are very few that are or have ever been sold commercially for direct purchase I do like to have a few in the collection, especially in my favourite patterns from the US.
