It’s a unicorn bro (literally, there on the label).
To the bloke to kindly sent this over; thanks again mate!

There’s nothing wild going on here aside from the tag, I’d say this was probably one of if not the last iteration before locking in the design and starting manufacture of the commercial version. The only difference I can find is the posi-lock cord pull on the front flap, where the commercial product has a more typical cordura laminate tab.
I think the change overall was the right move. While the cord would be easier to catch on to quickly with a thumb or curled fingers, especially in the wet or with gloves, it then also is necessarily more of a snag hazard in general. A potential problem if it’s poking out on the side of your belt, for example.

The one thing I stupidly didn’t get a picture of is that this pouch came with some tubing around the cord when I get it. Around 0.75″ pneumatic/hyd line or other flexible pipe of some kind, which had been cut to the length of the cord and with a slit down the length to ‘snap’ over the cord and act as an extra large grab handle.
Currently I have a normal commercial JSTA on my Multicam belt, but I reckon I’m going to swap this one in to its’ place and actually use it.
