As with so many of the placards out there which have the options for multiple different types of hardware on the sides, the F9 Gear Ammo Hub A1 can be configured in a huge number of different ways, both inside and out.

I’ve always been a big split-front chest rig fan myself. One of my first ever bits of nylon kit was similar to the TT 2-piece MAV, and that rig was probably the first one that I owned which I really liked a lot. So I was keen to mimic that config using a more recent design.

Because both 1″ buckles and Tubes have the same attachment loop geometry regardless of being the male or female, you can use a pair of placards to create rigs like this one; but personally I didn’t get along with it at all.

While the front harness attachments are of course too close together, that could be remedied in various ways. But the issue for me personally was this setup just didn’t wrap around the torso in a way that was even vaguely comfortable – quite the opposite actually.

I specifically spec’d the Hub to have some flexibility so that it can conform to a curved plate and ensure 100% velcro surface adhesion on the front of a PC (or a chest rig style placard expander). But in the pictured config, the curvature just wasn’t there, the mags really dug in to the ribs in a way I’ve not experienced with any other types of load carriage equipment.

As with anything I’m sure there will be a small number of people who do or would enjoy this style of setup. On paper it would be a great basis to carry 6×556 mags (for example) in a slick manner with room for PALS pouches across the outside. In reality though I’d recommend you check out some products from Tracer Tac or just any good quality pure PALS rig if you want a wide type of chest rig with configuration options.
