If you need to carry around any item/s that are valuable and slightly on the fragile side, such as night vision, then this insert can certainly make sense as an addition to any GP or utility pouch on your LBE. This is specifically sized for the Spiritus Small and Medium GPs. I have used it in the Small and it will definitely offer a lot of protection to any stowed items; you take up quite a lot of the pouch just with the insert. Presumably there will be a bit more free space around items in the Medium GP.
Having the hook field on this insert and using it with Spiritus’ pouches (which are universally loop-lined), you will nicely anchor the insert in place. Saves you having to stuff it back in to the pouch when you withdraw the actual equipment you needed to protect. That said, this will work with any GP of roughly similar dimensions naturally. Various other manufacturers do also line their pouches with loop these days.

Every tactical nylon company inevitably offers at least one product that is essentially a commercialised version of something that people had been kit-bashing out of basic materials.
If you spent the equivalent money on just buying a sheet of sturdy closed-cell foam, some glue and some hook velcro you could likely make multiple of these items if you cut and scored them yourself. There isn’t any stitching required or any specific, hard-to-obtain materials. The foam used in the Spiritus product provides a lot of padding protection in proportion to the amount of volume it occupies however. It is ready made and the way they have attached the hook field will be extremely secure in the long term. The inner surface is also compatible with hook, so you could attach elastic velcro inserts inside of this, which you couldn’t natively do with some generic foam from a craft supplier.
How much money you want to spend vs your time is, as always, a personal decision.
