Of all the colours of AXL Eclipse belt available, the grey makes the most sense overall. They’re all good, but since the bottom third or so is always exposed Curv, you might as well get this variant which matches.
Why is it actually sewn this way? I luckily got to ask one of the designers at the company some time ago, and they have tried out the same design with a full wrap of cordura (in whatever colour), but in testing found the wear comfort was far diminished by the full coverage. Something about the thermoplastic not being able to flex and move with the wearer in the same way once fully covered in fabric.

In my very limited wear time with my 2 x Eclipses, I’ve found them very comfortable on me personally compared to other 2-part belts. They are about as slim, slick and light as a PALS belt can physically be. I have never loaded one up with a large amount of weight and my gut says this might not be the belt for that, but it can sure do a holster, couple small mags, medium mag and a lil pack of sticking plasters. Possibly more but as I say, I haven’t tried it so I won’t comment.
Having taken a quick look around at a *small portion* of the market for similar products today, this one would be very high on my list. It blows a couple of the skate-deck marketing brovet sleeve-tattoo adversaries out of the water on value.
You can obviously spend more for a tougher construction and/or more features, usually adding at least some bulk and weight in the process. But I think the Eclipse is a great option at the lighter end of the spectrum.
