When the Gen 4 uniforms were very first unveiled, these combat shirts were part of the display, which was quite popular with a lot of folks. When the product line actually launched however, these full pattern versions were not available commercially and that remained the case for a few years.
From some conversations I had, I got the impression that these were available for a time to any organisation willing to place a large enough order, they just weren’t part of the commercial line-up for a period. Standard stuff there.
Fortunately, after a time, this option was added to the store (along with a surprising number of other SKUs), great for normie nerds like myself who have a thing for a full camo combat shirt.
The torso fabric is a slightly different material blend to my early production regular type G4 combat shirt, though I can’t say for sure if that is a necessity of the addition of camouflage or just a generic production change.
The closest similar product previously issued to certain folks would have been the Patagonia L9 NTS shirt, of which most were fully patterned and many were produced in MC. Those did notoriously fade very fast in the torso however. If anyone has worn and washed this Crye version extensively, do add your experiences with longevity down in the comments.
At the time of writing you do pay an extra $24 for this variant compared to any others on the Crye website. If you happen to wear a very compact vest or want a comfortable combat shirt for warm weather that retains all the visual concealment of a field shirt, then maybe that additional cost will be worth it for you. As always, decide accordingly based on what you want/need.
Sleeves/collar are the standard VTX Ripstop and the rest of the design is standard to all other regular type G4 combat shirts.
