A fairly cool (5-8C) and pretty breezy day out in the woods. I wasn’t sure what the USMC Combat Jacket would be like, but there was only one way to really find out. I had to defend and camp a fair bit, including for a while on the edge of the woods while a strong and consistent wind was blowing in from the adjacent fields. It got hot (but bearable) under the mildest activity, especially under the ‘högg, but was a real gem when stationary. Which makes sense, as as far as I can tell it’s GTX jacket with waffle fleece-lined sleeves and breathable side stretch panels. The proper solution of course is wear a normal shirt or softshell combat shirt and carry a poncho or rain jacket.
Flex-tarn G3s were a good camo call for this damp and very old dense English woodland.
Had my first ever safe-zone argument because a kid was dry firing rips of full auto in the SZ, and after politely asking him to stop a member of staff told me “he’s the owners son” (amongst other things) which threw me for a loop. I only didn’t leave at that point because he later apologised and I’d have been throwing away my own game money if I went home early.
Old Salomons are now totally fucked, another hour or so of walking around and the soles 100% definitely would have fallen off (currently sitting around 25% surface area glue adhesion to the body of the boots).
