Crye COVID Masks

An odd product that I originally considered only posting to social media, but on reflection if I don’t create a post here then the fact these existed/were sold might be forgotten about. The politics of the pandemic time frame I shall not get in to at the moment.

Crye Precision were far from the only tactical soft goods company to make face masks in 2020/21, undoubtedly because there was a demand on both the individual commercial and government contract levels and it was very easy for such companies to instantly pivot to manufacturing them.

These masks also represented an ideal opportunity for manufacturers to use up rolls of fabric that they had in inventory but had no other application for in a tactical product. For example the Crye masks were made from an extremely thin synthetic stretch fabric that I have never seen elsewhere in any uniform or LBE, and FirstSpear also made masks using cotton blend fabrics in both an unusual green colour and US Army UCP.

These Crye masks were simply laser cut from the aforementioned lightweight fabric and had a padding/filter type piece stitched in to the front. As shown at the top of this post they were offered in Multicam, CB and grey. Personally I used my grey one a lot through the 20/21 period when legally required to do so, as it was comfortable enough (comparatively), looked ok and was easily washable.

All we can do at this point is hope that we never have to make use of these things ever again.
