SUSAT-equipped Weapons

Obviously the SA80 series made, and make, extensive use of the SUSAT with all A1 and A2 variants having the 80s NATO spec dovetail optics rail, this includes both UK service and the small number of other nations that have issued SA80. But which other weapons have used this sight?

An obvious one is the UK L110 variant Minimi LMGs. With lots of the optics in stores it only made sense to equip another common weapon in the same calibre with the same optic as SA80.

Probably the best known foreign rifle to use SUSAT is the Spanish CETME-L, which served with Spain’s military prior to the G36. Not all of the rifles had the mounting rail, but some did and they bought some SUSATs to put on them.

In the same way as the UK put SUSAT on SA80s and the Minimi, the Spanish also put some of those SUSATs on their Ameli LMGs (basically a modern MG-3 in 556). Shown above is a rarer, early style SUSAT with the elevation drum on the front left, rather than the back centre as is the usual standard.

A much lesser known usage was on the Swedish AK5D, the DMR variant within the AK5 family of Swedish-modified FN FNC rifles. Most early AK5s only had iron sights, and they eventually were updated with lots of picatinny rails and red dots, but just a few of the first/arly models were fitted with a dovetail rail and a cheek riser in order to make the SUSAT usable and extend the effective range of the rifles.
