Totally Unremarkable DBDU Shirt

Managed to find a really nice NOS 6-col shirt in my size some time ago. Proper DoD contract stuff. Simple, but really a necessary part of any collection that focuses on high quality uniforms and US military camo and equipment of the modern era.

I’m not an expert on the very niche production variations in DBDU/DCU/BDUs, but the only noticeable difference between this shirt and my totally standard Woodland BDU shirt from the turn of the millennium is the massive 70s collar on this bad boy. I just know from the label it was made in 1990, so probably leading up to Gulf 1.

This was weirdly hard to track down here in the UK, considering millions of examples must have been made. Where eBay here is full to the rafters with DPM, DDPM and MTP, I’ve noticed US eBay is sparse on military surplus in comparison to the amount that surely exists. I’ve been told that most of it either is sold/given away as foreign aid, or hoarded in dusty warehouses by curmudgeonly grey-haired vets who lost a foot in ‘nam, barely use a land line and definitely refuse to have any presence on the internet.

Presumably this small ink stamp is something like a contract, inventory, shipping or other type of logistical management number. I hope they had a machine to put them all on.
