Unity Tactical FAST Micro Mount

A mount that started a movement.. or restarted one? The UNITY Tactical FAST Micro mount for T1 pattern red dot optics.

I’m not a frequent firer, I can’t talk with much authority about the issues a high height of bore causes with regards to knowing your zero, dope and effective point blank ranges with different calibers and barrel lengths. Personally I’ve come to the conclusion over the years that if either: the government hasn’t paid to highly train you in shooting or you haven’t spent many thousands and dedicated huge amounts of time to marksmanship as a civilian; then you should consider a simple optic with a simple bullet drop reticle that is paired with the relevant barrel, bullet weight and propellant (obviously there are still variances but you’ll be close). Then get as familiar as possible with that one, unchanging platform that is as close to a do-all rifle as you can manage.

With that said of course, you might be expecting to shoot mostly up close or mostly under NV or under a respirator or with other protective lower face gear. In which case, a nice high optic mount will likely help you a good deal. Being able to actually get a good sight picture and consistent cheek weld is going to matter a lot more than zeros a 200m+ for some people/circumstances.

These higher mounts also shouldn’t be viewed as a very modern fad either. A lot of servicemen were quite happy with red dots on top of AR carry handles all the way back to Vietnam and through the 90s and 00s. Though some would have welcomed the flat top no doubt as well. I specifically remember @counting_coup_tactical (over on IG) talking about putting absolute/lower third mounts on to generic pic risers to relieve neck cramp and general strain when training for very long periods.

You do pay for the quality of manufacture and where it’s manufactured, but you do get a product made to extremely high modern standards. The whole matching suite of accompanying product options and other mounts that work from companies other than Unity certainly helps as well.
