Crye G3 Combat Shirt – Navy Blue

It’s been almost 5 years since Crye added Gray and this Navy Blue to the G3 commercial offerings, but they had made this colour for a good while before that.

The first examples I know of were what people called the LAPD Customs. Presumably LAPD is a very large organisation with plenty of budget, so their various specialist teams ticked all the right boxes to get issued a customised uniform from a high end manufacturer. Supposedly there were multiple sub-variants, but I’ve never dug through photos to really find out about that to be honest.

Those original issued Customs were rarely seen in private hands as the only way to get them was from said police department/an officer that had been issued them. Every privately owned shirt I ever saw had distinctive department badges sewn on where the upper arm pocket would usually be.

Then around 2018 or so the company did sell the ‘LAC’ sets direct through their website, at least for a short time. Field and Combat cuts were available around the usual prices. These noticeably lacked bicep and ankle pockets and most unusually were made from a Poly/Cotton blend where almost every other conventional Crye uniform has been Nylon/Cotton. Articles about them have been up on the site here for a long time already.

Currently offered G3s in Navy are, I think, a great choice if you want a dark solid colour. To me it’s just simply better looking than flat black, even though it’s so dark as to often look like black in photos. My very humble personal opinion is that it’s also a better and more professional looking colour than black for any person working in a government role that involves serving the public.
