Crye G3 Field Trousers – US Woodland

Like surplus BDU pants, but with extra steps. And extra style points, at least to people who look at uniforms really closely.

The US Woodland camo combat cut G3 uniforms have of course been popular for a very long time, there were at least a couple of different versions issued out to special blokes long before any batches made of regular NYCO were sold on the commercial market. The G3 Field sets however aren’t as popular or as widely featured, nor have they been sold in the same quantity commercially.

I’ve previously featured the combat shirt and pants and the field shirt on the site (search box is right down the bottom if you’re unaware), and this item was the last of the 4 I was able to obtain. Back in 2022 @optactical did us collector nerds a solid and had a batch made to fill our OCD voids. Very few (if any) other retailers have ever sold these.

They are an entirely normal G3 Field pant in terms of design with NYCO fabric just like every other; with the exception of the camouflage printed to it naturallt. The pattern is, when new, a very dark/deep and high contrast iteration of Wooldand Camo, especially when you’re accustomed to seeing surplus BDUs that were issued and washed 100+ times in their service within the military.

Did these make sense as a buy if you could get hold of surplus BDU pants for sub-$20? Of course not, they’re essentially the same fabrics, the BDUs were also likely made in America, and with just a couple of stitch mods to the BDUs they’re functionally about the same – and still similar even in original format.

As is often the case though, these didn’t have a lot of market appeal for the reasons outlined above, which means not many were ever produced, which ends up actually making them a bit rarer than some of the more popular offerings.
