Taiga NR TJ Trousers – TMTP

Taiga is a Swedish-based company who, it would appear, at some time in the early to mid 2010s won a contract to supply the MoD with a hot weather/tropical/jungle uniform. That uniform was their 50/50 NYCO Ripstop ‘NR TJ’ set, though don’t ask me what those letters stand for as their own product page doesn’t explain. I’m not sure whether these were limited to SF, but those guys were indeed seen with these.

On a basic level we have a typical UK/EU style field trouser with 5 pockets that very closely follows the design of the CS95 issued trousers. Simple, but also lightweight and flexible and, generally speaking, having all the features that the vast majority of personnel will ever need.

Nice large belt loops which are made from a webbing type material. Rear pocket has a flap that the CS95 equivalent did not.

Typical drawstring ankle cuffs.

Everything about the thigh cargo pockets is almost the exact same as CS95.

Slash waist pockets have non-closing flap covers, are half mesh with and with a secure extra zip-secure pocket on the right side.

Waist closure is again just like CS95 to include the ‘bathrobe belt’ extra option for tightening. The inclusion of a hanging loop is an unusual choice.

Keeping manufacture at least inside Europe is nice. And to be honest quite necessary to make military garments economically viable in the 21st century.

The camo pattern ‘Taiga MTP’ is, as the name suggest, a very slight variation on official MoD MTP. Without getting in to a deep analysis, it is extremely similar with the colours appearing slightly more like standard Multicam.

Personally I just wanted a more ‘gucci’ pair of field trousers in MTP when compared to the super common CS95 or PCS issued options. These do indeed have a few small quality of life improvements and a made of a more expensive fabric to a higher standard of construction, but there’s definitely not enough difference here for these to be worth paying the much higher price to equip everybody with.
