Transatlantic Webbing Project Pt. 1 – S.O. Tech Belt

Above is the foundation of the new @sotechtactical BLoCS Gen V kits.

I’m not sure whether you can even buy these elements standalone right now, but either way thanks to SOT for sending them over so I can finally get going on the transatlantic webbing project that I wanted to do last year.

Specifically this is the MBS Slim belt pad, Laser cut, Jungle and Harness, Laser cut, Flat with Drop adapters (allows for 2 different ride heights).

Obviously there’s not been any shortage of PALS belts on the market, it’s just that nothing else jumped out at me. That was until I saw this kit at SHOT. The airman in me naturally seeks out minimum weight with maximum comfort, so something just clicked for me when I saw this belt. Plus there is a much taller version in true British webbing style and with the SOT pouches the yoke can attach directly vs having to go to the belt. I could tell that some international thinking had most likely gone in to the design of this gear.

The main portion of the belt has a decent amount of spacer mesh internally and while I don’t know the exact product name it’s got absolutely tons of volume with fairly minimal actual material used, i.e. plenty of airflow potential. On top of the spacer mesh there’s MC Omega mesh, followed by a Tegris plate that’s stiff vertically but super flexible horizontally. Then of course a cordura laminate outer most for pouch attachment.

The other aspect I really like is that there’s no belt running through, because that’s really not necessary a lot of the time when the harness is attaching to the pouches. Also the included partial belts on each end have a wide range of adjustment that’s very quick and easy to do. Overall it’s basically a belt pad that clips together to your front, which is just how it’s done on the custom sets from shops like JayJays and Dragon Supplies (you may need to look them up for context if you’re not in the British army).

While I really do not need a high capacity webbing set that’s super resilient to weather and environment in my hobby, it will be something very different to all my modern low-pro chest rigs that are really just setup for a few mags and a couple of ‘nades.
